Patrick Cote re-injures MCL

During preparation for his much-anticipated return since awkwardly pivoting and tearing a ligament in his right knee during a late 2008 title fight loss, lighting has struck twice on the gimp knee of Patrick Cote, as he has yet again torn his MCL
The medial collateral ligament or MCL that it is often referred as, is one of four ligaments that are critical to the stability of the knee joint. A ligament is made of tough fibrous material and functions to control excessive motion by limiting joint mobility, which prevents the knee from buckling.
This comes as a huge disappointment to Patrick Cote, who recently discover the severity of his injury when he went in for a routine check up for the knee injury suffered against Anderson Silva last year. Believing his knee was nearly healed and he will be able to return to action as early as the fall, the doctor informed him otherwise as fate had different plans for the ill-fated fighter.
It is reported that the injury came during a practice session.
Cote remains to keep high spirits towards the carousel of misfortune, "It's like the bad luck is still against me, but what can I do? I'll be back. I'm going to heal very, very well and after that my knee will be 100-percent. It sucks, but hey."
This comes as a huge shock to Cote and the UFC, as both sides have recently come to terms for a four-fight contract for an undisclosed amount of money per bout.
Cote is expected to go in for surgery this Wednesday and start the rehabilitation process as early as three weeks from his surgery date. The young fighter is hopeful he will be back in the cage competing as soon as February of 2010.
