WEC Champ Bowles Out 6-8 Weeks or More
Posted by Deshalen Barber on the 20 August 2009 | No Comments
Just minutes out of the doctor’s office, Brian Bowles discovers he broke his middle finger and left hand while claiming a stunning KO victory over Miguel Angel Torres. Bowles has no certainty as to how long he is to be out for, but claims “the last time I broke my hand, it took about 6-8 to weeks, and this is supposed to be a little worse. So it may be a few weeks longer”.
Fortunately for the newly crowned WEC bantamweight champ and top ten pound for pound inductee, he will not have to undergo surgery. While talking in a playful manner about his injury; Bowles believes “its worth it, just a small price I have to pay”.
He could never be more correct. How can you argue having a broken hand as being the only setback to becoming the #1 bantamweight in the world?
Heading into the bout with former #1 bantamweight Miguel Angel Torres, Bowles carried a piece of mind in knowing not only did he belong, but he can beat the former champ. That’s just what he did, blasting Torres into the early stages of rigor mortis during the first round of the conquest scoring a KO victory. The win also shattered Torres’ 17 fight win streak.
For the exclusive interview with Georgia native Brian Bowles, spotlighting what gravitated him to MMA, his game plan against Torres, and what he simply enjoys doing in his spare time. Make sure to purchase the next issue of MMA Worldwide on news stands in September.
