Andrei “Pitbull” Arlovski
Biography
Arlovski came into the sport of MMA with a background in Sambo, which he became a competitor in after taking a defense course in Sambo that was required by the police department in Minsk. At the age of 20, Arlovski began his professional MMA career at the Mix Fight M-1 in St Petersburg, Russia on April 9, 1999. He lost his first pro bout, but was not deterred as he continued on with his career and returned in 2000 to M-1 Global at the European Championships, taking the heavyweight crown with a submission victory and a KO victory. Arlovski made his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut at "UFC 28: High Stakes", defeating Aaron Brink by submission.
Arlovski went eventually go on to obtaining the UFC Heavyweight Belt by way of beating Tim Sylvia, another top Heavyweight contender at the time, while Mir was out with injuries. He would defend his title against Justin Ellers and Paul Buentello, before falling to Sylvia. He then went on to lose the rubber match between the two fighters as well. After leaving the UFC once his contract had expired, Arlovski moved onto Affliction, where he won his first fight against Ben Rothwell in this new organization.
